Design Details

A beige kora cotton kurta scattered with deep red floral bootis and anchored by an embroidered yoke worked in red and green florals with bead and sequin detailing. Sequins pick out the motifs across the body. The contrast dupatta is printed in maroon-red florals with a grey-blue border, and maroon trousers complete the set. The warm neutral base with red embroidery makes it a versatile festive choice that suits both daytime and evening functions.

My Story

Kora simply means unbleached - cloth taken straight off the loom, never chemically whitened, so it keeps the warm, oatmeal cast of raw cotton and a slightly slubby hand. Indian dyers and printers have always prized it as a ground: because it has not been stripped, it takes natural dye and block print with a depth that bleached white cannot match, and the fibre stays stronger and breathes better for it. What was once the cheapest cloth on the loom is now sought out precisely for the quality bleaching takes away.

Wash and Care

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first two or three washes as natural dyes may bleed a little. Do not bleach or wring. Dry in the shade to keep the colour true, and press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
