Design Details
A deep berry cotton silk kurta with a gold zari band running down the centre placket and a woven zari border at the hem, paired with a dupatta finished in a broad gold border and matching trousers. Cotton silk gives the colour a soft, muted depth and holds the shape of the kurta cleanly. Rich enough for weddings and festive evenings, restrained enough to wear more than once a season.

My Story
Cotton silk is a blend that solves an old problem. Pure silk drapes and shines but does not breathe; pure cotton breathes but creases and falls flat. Running a silk warp against a cotton weft gives you the sheen and the structure of one with the coolness and give of the other - which is why Indian weavers have paired the two fibres for centuries, and why cotton silk holds the line of a kurta cleanly through a long day when cotton alone would have gone soft by afternoon. The zari worked into it is flattened metallic thread, wound on a silk core in the Banarasi tradition.
Wash and Care
This set mixes fabrics, so treat the pieces differently. The kurta and bottom should be dry cleaned for the first wash, then hand washed in cold water and dried flat in the shade. The dupatta can be washed in cold water with a mild detergent from the start. Do not bleach or wring. Press on a low heat with a cloth between the iron and any zari or embroidery.
