Design Details

A soft lemon-green mul kurta carrying white chikankari across the yoke, body and sleeve hems, with sequin accents scattered through the paisley and floral motifs so the surface shifts slightly in the light. The round neck opens into a narrow keyhole and the hem is finished with an embroidered border. Mulmul keeps it feather-light and breathable, so it stays comfortable through long, warm days while the sequin work lifts it enough for lunches, festive mornings and casual celebrations.

My Story

Chikankari is Lucknow’s white-on-white whisper of a craft, said to have arrived with Nur Jahan, the Mughal empress who fell in love with fine Persian shadow work and had it made in her own court. More than thirty distinct stitches make up its vocabulary - bakhiya worked from the reverse so the pattern floats up as a shadow, murri and phanda knotted into tiny grains of rice and millet, jaali teased open with a needle to make lace without ever cutting the cloth. One kurta can pass through six pairs of hands, each artisan a specialist in a few stitches alone, and take weeks to finish.

Wash and Care

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first two or three washes as natural dyes may bleed a little. Do not bleach or wring. Dry in the shade to keep the colour true, and press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
