A deep maroon-red cotton kurta with a multicoloured embroidered panel running from the V-neck down the centre front, worked in cream, orange and green florals, with small embroidered bootis scattered across the body. My Story
Sanganeri block printing takes its name from the town just south of Jaipur, where the mineral content of the local water was said to set the colours more brilliantly than anywhere else. Rajput patronage turned it into a court craft in the seventeenth century, and by the eighteenth the East India Company was shipping Sanganeri chintz to Europe by the boatload - so successfully that England banned its import to protect its own mills. Its signature is delicate: fine floral butis on a pale ground, each colour struck from its own hand-carved teak block, registered by eye alone.
Wash and Care
Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first two or three washes as natural dyes may bleed a little. Do not bleach or wring. Dry in the shade to keep the colour true, and press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
