Design Details

A crisp white-on-white chikankari kurta in pure cotton, hand-embroidered in the Lucknowi tradition. Fine floral and jaali stitching runs down the centre panel and spreads across the body, with a round neck finished in a slim keyhole notch and three-quarter sleeves. The tonal embroidery catches light rather than colour, which makes it read as texture from a distance and detail up close. An easy, breathable piece for summer daywear, office days and daytime functions, and a quiet base for silver or oxidised jewellery.

My Story

Chikankari is Lucknow’s white-on-white whisper of a craft, said to have arrived with Nur Jahan, the Mughal empress who fell in love with fine Persian shadow work and had it made in her own court. More than thirty distinct stitches make up its vocabulary - bakhiya worked from the reverse so the pattern floats up as a shadow, murri and phanda knotted into tiny grains of rice and millet, jaali teased open with a needle to make lace without ever cutting the cloth. One kurta can pass through six pairs of hands, each artisan a specialist in a few stitches alone, and take weeks to finish.

Wash and Care

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first two or three washes as natural dyes may bleed a little. Do not bleach or wring. Dry in the shade to keep the colour true, and press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
