My story

Mulmul is the descendant of Bengal’s legendary Dhaka muslin - a cloth so fine that Mughal chroniclers called it baft hawa, woven air, and claimed a whole bolt could be drawn through a ring. It was spun from a cotton that grew only along the Meghna, by spinners who worked at dawn while the river mist kept the thread supple, and the British dismantled the trade so thoroughly that the original variety was lost. What survives is mulmul: a soft, open, feather-light cotton that is still the coolest thing you can put on in an Indian summer.
