Design Details
A dusty mauve lawn cotton set printed in a tonal floral jaal, with contrast green-edged borders detailing the placket, sleeve hems and kurta hem. The matching dupatta carries a printed striped border and the palazzo repeats the floral print. Lawn cotton is a finely woven, lightweight cotton with a smooth, cool hand, which makes this a comfortable choice for warm weather while the coordinated borders keep it looking considered rather than casual.

My Story
Lawn cotton takes its name from Laon in northern France, where it was first woven as a fine linen for church vestments before cotton took its place. It is a plain-weave cloth made from very high-count combed yarn, then given a light finish that leaves it smooth and faintly crisp rather than soft - which is why it stays cool against the skin and holds a printed border crisply instead of letting it blur. In the subcontinent it became the fabric of the summer wardrobe, where the season is long and the heat is not negotiable.
Wash and Care
Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, separately for the first two or three washes as natural dyes may bleed a little. Do not bleach or wring. Dry in the shade to keep the colour true, and press on a medium heat while slightly damp.
