Design Details

A maroon-red cotton silk kurta patterned with cream and gold ikat-style medallions, finished with navy and gold geometric border panels at the hem. The contrast dupatta pairs navy and red in a patola-inspired print banded with gold zari, and navy trousers ground the set. The deep red-and-navy pairing with zari borders gives this a rich, traditional character that suits weddings, festive evenings and family functions.

My Story

Cotton silk is a blend that solves an old problem. Pure silk drapes and shines but does not breathe; pure cotton breathes but creases and falls flat. Running a silk warp against a cotton weft gives you the sheen and the structure of one with the coolness and give of the other - which is why Indian weavers have paired the two fibres for centuries, and why cotton silk holds the line of a kurta cleanly through a long day when cotton alone would have gone soft by afternoon. The zari worked into it is flattened metallic thread, wound on a silk core in the Banarasi tradition.

Wash and Care

Dry clean only for the first wash. After that, hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, never wring the fabric, and dry flat in the shade. Press on a low heat with a cloth between the iron and any zari or embroidery.
